Today's blog article is going to be about one of my favorite places in South Korea.

Nestled in the heart of Suwon, South Korea, Hwaseong Fortress stands as a testament to the nation's rich history and cultural heritage. This magnificent fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts, architecture admirers, and anyone seeking a glimpse into Korea's storied past.

Benim Apgujeong'ta tercih ettiğim goşivon Cony House isimli yerdi, odaların nasıl olduğuna dair fikir edinmek adına buradan bakabilirsiniz.

Konaklamanız uzun süreli olacaksa bu tarz yerlerin genelde Kakaotalk'ta hesapları oluyor, indirim almak adına mutlaka mesaj atmanızı öneririm. Kore'de Staj Nasıl Ayarlanır? [PART 2]

İlk yazı serisinin üzerinden oldukça zaman geçti. Bu ikinci kısımda e-mail attıktan sonra ne gibi süreçlerden geçtiğimden bahsedeceğim.


Ben hocalarla iletişime geçtiğimde Psikoloji alanı Kore'de Amerika veya Kanada'da olduğu kadar uluslararası bir popülerliğe sahip olmadığından bazı hocaların yabancı öğrenci alacak kapasiteye sahip lab'ları yoktu. E-maillerinize hepsi geri dönüş yapmayacak, yapanlardan red alacaksınız. Bunların moralinizi bozmasına izin vermeden başka hocalarda şansınızı denemeye devam etmelisiniz. Biyoloji, genetik, kimya gibi alanlarda çok daha şansınız yüksek olabilir. Ama bu demek değildir ki başka alanlar staj asla yapamaz, ilk siz gidersiniz ve yol açılmış olur o yüzden denemekten çekinmeyin.

Benim okulda Kore Tarihi derslerini aldığım hocam SNU'da yanında çalışmak istediğim hocaya referans e-maili atıp hakkımda birkaç güzel şeyi Korece yazdıktan sonra hocaya benim e-maillerimin ulaşmadığı ortaya çıktı. Tekrar özgeçmişimi, kısa bir bilgilendirme ve neden o lab'da çalışmak istediğimi anlatan e-maili hocaya yolladım. Bu sayede süreç başlamış oldu.

Hocanın bana söyledikleri şu oldu ilk etapta:
- Kalabalık bir lab olduğu için şu an sana herhangi bir finansal destek sağlayamayacağım buna tamam diyorsan seve seve lab'e gelip aramıza katılabilirsin.
- Kütüphaneyi kullanabilmen için kart çıkarttıracağım.
- Yurt konusunda destek isteyip istemediğimi sordu.

Kendi bütçemi ayarladığım için lab'dan para alamayacak olmak beni zorlamadı fakat bütçeniz kısıtlı ise ve alanınız bu konuda ufak staj yardımlarına açık ise hocanıza sormaktan çekinmeyin. Hiç beklemediğiniz bütçelere sahip olup yardım edebilecek lab'lar mevcut.

Bölümün sekreterinden kabul mektubu yazımı aldıktan sonra yurtlarla kendim iletişime geçtim. SNU yurt konusunda oldukça katı. Eğer resmi bir anlaşma sonucunda araştırmaya gitmiyorsanız yurtta kalmanıza olanak vermiyorlar. Hocaların kendi kontenjanları oluyor yine bu konuda da şansınıza kalmış, eğer hoca size kontenjanından yer ayarlatırsa yurt ayarlayabiliyorsunuz. Benim gittiğim dönemde Amerika'dan bir araştırmacı bölüme geldiği için hoca kontenjanını çoktan o kişiye kullanmıştı.

Yurt ayarlayamadığımdan dolayı hostellere ve airbnb üzerinden kiralık oda-evlere bakmaya başladım. Konaklama ile ilgili kısmı ayrı bir yazıda detaylı anlatacağım.

Kabul mektubunuzu aldıktan sonra derin bir nefes alıp rahatça uçak biletlerine bakmaya başlayabilirsiniz, artık resmi bir onayınız var tebrikler!

Bu yazımda daha önce instagram hesabımda kısaca anlattığım ve sizlerden fazlasıyla soru aldığım staj konusundan bahsedeceğim.

Seoul National Üniversitesi Psikoloji Bölümü'nde Happiness Center'da (mutluluk üzerine çalışmalar yapılmakta) Haziran'da başlayan Eylül sonunda biten 3 aylık bir staj deneyimim oldu. Boğaziçi Üniversitesi Psikoloji lisans ve yüksek lisans mezunuyum. Orta seviye Korece derslerini bitirdikten sonra yaz boyunca Kore'deydim.

Kore'de staj yapmak için neler gerekiyor? Nasıl başvuru yapılıyor? Nelere dikkat etmelisiniz?
Tüm sorularınıza ufak bir staj yazı serisi ile cevap vermeye çalışacağım.

Ben psikoloji yüksek lisans öğrencisi olduğum dönemde başvuru yaptığım için tamamen kendi bölümüm ve tecrübelerim üzerinden yola çıkarak anlatacağım. Farklı bölümler ve farklı üniversitelerin süreçleri değişiklik gösterebilir.

İlk olarak yapmanız gereken çalışmak istediğiniz konuya ve lab'a karar vermeniz. Örnek verecek olursam, "bilişsel psikoloji okuduğum için hafıza çalışan bir lab ve hocayla beraber projelerde yer almak istiyorum" gibi bir fikirle ne istediğinizden emin olarak yola başlamanız gerekiyor.

Konuya karar verdikten sonra bölümünüzün olduğu üniversitelerin bir listesini yapın. Üniversitenin web sitesi üzerinden kendi bölümünüzde çalışan hocaların profillerinden hangi konuları çalıştıklarını ve hangi lab'a sahip olduklarını göreceksiniz. Bir sonraki aşamada karar verdiğiniz konuyu çalışan veya yakın olan hocalara e-mail atmaya başlayacaksınız.

E-mail atarken dikkat etmeniz gerekenler:
- Özgeçmişinizi hazırlayıp e-mail ile birlikte gönderin.
- Çalışmak istediğiniz alanı neden seçtiniz ve niye o hocanın lab'ında görev almak istiyorsunuz kısaca bunu e-mailinizde belirtin.
- Korece biliyorsanız e-maili Korece yazın. Bilmiyorsanız İngilizce de yollayabilirsiniz.
- Hemen cevap gelmedi diye üst üste e-mail yollamayın. Hocaların ders vermek, araştırma yapmak dışında da birçok yoğunluğu oluyor.

Benim e-mail atmam üzerine okuldaki Koreli hocam da referans oldu. Eğer çalıştığınız bir hocanız varsa size referans olması da şansınızı artıracaktır.

I had a 3-month internship experience that started in June and ended at the end of September at the Happiness Center in the Psychology Department of Seoul National University (where studies on happiness are conducted). I graduated with a bachelor's and master's degree in Psychology from Boğaziçi University. After completing intermediate-level Korean language courses, I spent the summer in Korea.

What is required to do an internship in Korea? How do you apply? What should you pay attention to? I will try to answer all your questions with a short internship series.

Since I applied when I was a psychology graduate student, I will explain based on my own department and experiences. The processes of different departments and universities may vary.

The first thing you need to do is decide on the topic and lab where you want to work. For example, you should start by being sure about what you want with an idea like "I studied cognitive psychology, so I want to work in a lab that focuses on memory and be involved in projects with the professor."

Once you've decided on the topic, make a list of universities where your department is located. You will see on the university's website the profiles of professors in your department, what topics they work on, and which lab they have. In the next step, you will start sending emails to professors who work on the topic you have decided on or are closely related to it.

Things to consider when sending an email:

- Prepare your resume and send it along with the email.

- Briefly state in your email why you chose the field you want to work in and why you want to be involved in that professor's lab.

- Write the email in Korean if you know the language. If not, you can send it in English.

- Do not send multiple emails in a row just because you didn't get an immediate response. Professors have many other commitments aside from teaching and research.

After I sent the email, my Korean professor at school also provided a reference for me. If you have a professor you are working with, having them as a reference will also increase your chances.

Flags are more than just pieces of cloth; they are potent symbols of a nation's identity, history, and aspirations. In the heart of East Asia, the Republic of Korea, commonly known as South Korea, proudly waves its national flag, the Taegeukgi. Every year on August 15th, South Koreans commemorate Liberation Day, a national holiday that marks the end of Japanese colonial rule in 1945. It's a day of celebration and reflection, and the Taegeukgi plays a central role in this commemoration.

In this article, I will delve into the history and significance of the Taegeukgi, exploring its birth story and its deep connection to Liberation Day.

The Birth Story of Taegeukgi
